During work today, I spent a good quarter of an hour chatting with my boss. Discussing the importance of a good HR recruitment/employment strategy. Seems like RI hasn't been practicing good hiring techniques, in terms of personality match in accordance with the job. Perhaps it is in our culture, that they ask qtns such as loyalty, how they spend their pay, etc. However, my boss asked me qtns regarding personality type during my interview. It's really interesting--personality matching with jobs. When one hires the right person, eg: Hiring a sales person who not only has Good communication, but also Organisation, they can fulfill work much easier, efficiency and effectiveness is also achieved. There have been instances whereby sales people can communicate well, but aren't organised. Basically, they get buried under other stuff and can't excel.
It is insufficient for a sales person to only have an interview. A guide to better hiring of Sales staff could incorporate a sales presentation, for instance. It is better to rate them by that rather than listening to them proclaim how good they are in an interview. Culture plays a big part, because in the Asian culture, companies keep the old and inefficient/ineffective staff, based on their experience and age, rather than capabilities. It is not cost-productive for the company, but I guess it gives them security for their rice bowl.
We also touched upon the company culture. Long-term investments over short term jobs. Having many little contracts over a few massive jobs. Yup, that is our secret recipe to profit levels of 30% and more. However, for a company to succeed and excel over competitors, the sales must tie-in with the operations and service sector. If either end fails, the results will prove disastrous through bad WOM. Therefore, an easy step to reduce this failure ( a guide, but not a sure-fire way), would be to hire the right person. With motivation and training, employees will produce the desired results for the company, thus propelling them into great success.
I for one, am immensely glad that my boss has great insight, very clear objectives, powerful management tactics and capacity to excel in a leader position with a gung-ho attitude. And, Age is certainly not a factor here, cause he's only 29, and he's been in a managing position overseas for 4 years. *gasps* yup, that's right. I'll strive to learn as much as I can before he returns to UK. *smiles*
